When a church requests a name change, the new name must contain the words Church of the Nazarene as part of the full name, i.e., Oakwood Church of the Nazarene.
The name change is to come in a formal written request to the district superintendent for submission to the District Advisory Board following Manual 101.1:
101.1. Change of Name. A local Church of the Nazarene may change its name by a majority ballot vote in an annual or special meeting of the church membership. Processes for the change shall be: (a) The local church board submits the proposed change to the district superintendent who shall obtain the written approval of the District Advisory Board; (b) the local church votes; (c) the District Advisory Board reports the change to the district assembly, and the district assembly votes approval of the same. |
